Sydney Driving Tutions North Shore Peters Driving School has been in operation for over 22 years, and has an excellent reputation in the industry. We are one of the largest non-franchise Driving Schools in the North Shore and Northern Beaches and are expanding at a rapid rate. With a number of instructors, both automatic and manual, we are available to cover all areas within the North Shore, Northern Beaches and Hills District suburbs of Sydney.

For learners who don’t require a driving lesson package, individual lessons are available ($64 for a 1 hour lesson)

For experienced learners preparing for their driving test, our 1.5 hour test preparation package focuses on areas of improvement. Learners are able to build confidence and acquire those finer details that determine a pass or fail. Our experienced instructors help students to pass first go and equip them with safe driving skills for life. Each learner also receives training aids that will help prepare for the driving test.

Our Test Package assists learners who are going for their test by making them more familiar with the RTA testing areas. The Test Package includes 1 hour driving lesson prior to the test, as well as the use of the instructor’s car for the test. The hour lesson is perfect for calming learner’s nerves and allows for last minute preparation.

What’s covered in a typical driving lesson?

Each driving lesson is structured differently depending on the needs of the learner. Our instructors follow strict lessons influenced by the RTA on the following areas to ensure learners receive appropriate guidance in the following areas:

Speed management:

The driver demonstrates their ability to manage speed and maintain a crash avoidance space.

  1. Maintains space to the front:
    • With a gap of at least 3 seconds when following another vehicle an d increases the gap in poor conditions
    • When stationary behind another vehicle
  2. Reduces speed:
    • When vision is limited (e.g. blind crests and curves)
    • When space to the side is limited
  3. Maintains traffic flow:
    • When traffic, weather and road conditions allow

Road positioning:

The driver demonstrates their ability to position the vehicle by selecting a safe and legal path of travel

  1. Buffering by:
    • Maintaining space from parked and oncoming vehicles
    • Moving left on crests and curves
    • Avoiding driving in the blind spots of other vehicles
  2. Inspections:
    • Are approached and exited in a safe and legal manner
  3. Manoeuvres:
    • Parks at required angle, close to the kerb (including start of three-point turn)
    • Maintains sufficient distance (between one and two metres) from other vehicles

Decision making:

The driver demonstrates the ability to select a safe and legal gap

  1. When joining the traffic flow, lane changing, merging, diverging and manoeuvring:
    • Chooses a safe and legal gap at intersections, leaving the kerb, changing lanes and merging
  2. When crossing the traffic flow:
    • Clears the intersection 3 seconds before another vehicle arrives.
The driver performs the necessary observation checks.

  1. When joining the traffic flow, lane changing, merging, diverging, manoeuvring and proceeding through traffic lights.

Responding to hazards:

The driver demonstrates their ability to protect their crash avoidance space by responding to hazards with one, or a combination of, the following actions.

  1. Responds by managing speed, ‘sets up’ or ‘covers’ brakes, slowing down
  2. Responds by managing position, buffers away from hazard

Vehicle control:

The driver demonstrates the ability to maintain smooth control of the vehicle by correct seat adjustment, use of the accelerator, brakes, clutch, gears, steering, auxiliary controls and signals.

Cancellation Policy

If a cancellation needs to be made, please contact either the office or your instructor at least 24 hours in advance. Cancellations made less than 24 hours in advance may be subject to a 50% cancellation fee.
