When you’re driving on a road with more than one lane, you must keep your car wholly within one lane.  A broken line generally divides the lines and if you want to cross that line to change lanes or make a turn, you must indicate your intention and check mirrors and blind spots before making your move.  This gives other motorists time to warn you if they observe that it’s unsafe for you to turn or change lanes.  If you hear the sound of a car horn, have a second look before turning or changing lane.  If there’s doubt, the safest thing to do is to remain in the same lane.  If the line between the lanes is unbroken, you must remain in your lane until it becomes broken.

When you want to make a turn from laned traffic, you must be in the lane closest to the turn (unless markings on the road indicate otherwise).  In some lanes you may drive straight ahead OR turn from that lane.  In that situation, the lane is marked accordingly.
